Arsenal and Chelsea may be making plans to land Everton youngster John Stones, but the Londoners’ rivals Tottenham Hotspur have already become the favourites to sign the player, after launching a fresh bid for him, according to reports in The Daily Express.
Spurs have previously also had a bid for the 20 year old rejected by the Merseysiders.
It is believed that Tottenham ace Jan Vertonghen is set to move to Spanish side Barcelona in the near future, which in turn has prompted new manager Mauricio Pochettino to target signing a long-term replacement.
20 year old Stones traditionally plies his trade in central defence, with an additional capability to play at right back should the need arise. This in turn has made him an immensely coveted commodity for the aforementioned Premier League giants, with the player touted to be a star in the making.
While Arsenal and Chelsea, both, have the option of offering Stones Champions League football to lure him to their respective dens, the fact that he may more easily carve a place for himself in Pochettino’s team may tilt the balance in Spurs’ favour.
