Leading the way in this spending spree is Villarreal defender Mateo Musacchio, with the north London side looking to bring in the 23 year old, with the La Liga side’s coach Marcelino quoted as stating he “expects” the former River Plate star to leave this summer.

A tougher nut to crack comes in the form of Southampton pair Morgan Schneiderlin and Jay Rodriguez, who have long been linked with a move to follow their former manager to Tottenham.

Saints Chairman Ralph Krueger has insisted that neither player will be sold this summer, but Tottenham are ready to test their resolve.

Ronald Koeman has already seen his side decimated by the sales of Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert, Dejan Lovren, Luke Shaw and Calum Chambers and the south-coast side’s chairman is therefore perhaps not the best judge of which players Southampton are likely to retain come September 1st.
