Southampton have completed the signing of Hull City striker Shane Long on a four-year contract.

The 27-year-old Irishman only joined Hull from West Brom in January, but the Saints have successfully tempted the player into a move to the South Coast with a £12.5m bid.

Long joined the Tigers for around £7m earlier this year, meaning that Steve Bruce’s side have virtually doubled their money on the player, despite him making just 15 appearances for the club, scoring four goals.

The Saints latest acquisition has plenty of Premier League experience, having scored 28 goals at this level for Hull, West Brom and Reading.

He becomes the club’s sixth summer acquisition, following on from the signings of Dusan Tadic from FC Twente, Graziano Pelle from Feyenoord, Saphir Taider from Inter Milan, Ryan Bertrand from Chelsea and Fraser Foster from Celtic.

The signings made by new boss Ronaldo Koeman should go some way to repairing the damage done by the departures of Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Luke Shaw, Calum Chambers and Dejan Lovren.
