Juventus’ path to signing Arsenal forward Lukas Podolski has been left clear, after Turkish side Galatasaray pulled out of a deal for the German World Cup winner.
Reports in the Daily Express explain that bosses from Turin will arrive in London tomorrow to discuss a loan move for the Gunners’ star, who was left out of their 2-2 draw at Everton on Saturday.
The 29-year-old was given an extended summer break following his exploits in Brazil this summer, but his countrymen Mesut Ozil and Per Mertesacker did return to the Arsenal line-up at Goodison Park.
According to Tuttosport, Juve manager Massimiliano Allegri wants a striker to fit his 4-3-3 system alongside Alvaro Morata, with Podolski perfect to play on the left – but the Italian champions are unwilling to commit to a permanent deal at this stage.
The source adds that Juve look even more likely to land Podolski after Galatasaray CEO Unal Aysal confirmed the club cannot pursue the former Bayern Munich ace, stating that he would be a “luxury signing”, rather than a necessity.
Galatasaray coach Cesare Prandelli is more interested in Arsenal’s Joel Campbell, who impressed greatly at the World Cup for Costa Rica this summer, and has emerged as a top transfer target for several European clubs.
