Arsenal could face competition from Real Madrid for the signing of Wolfsburg’s Brazilian midfielder Luiz Gustavo, according to Fichajes.net.
However, the Spanish giants themselves are looking to strenghten in the middle of the park after agreeing to sell Xabi Alonso to Bayern Munich, and could make Gustavo their top target to come in as a replacement in that position.
It has previously been suggested that Gustavo has a release clause of around £26m at Wolfsburg, and it may be that Real will look to activate this clause in the next few days as they seek a new signing in midfield before the summer transfer window deadline.
This will come as yet another blow for Arsenal in their search for additions in the defensive midfield role, with an injury to club captain Mikel Arteta leaving them well short of options in that position for the early part of the season.
Still, it has been suggested that the Gunners are making progress in their efforts to sign Paris Saint-Germain youngster Adrien Rabiot.
