Liverpool are interested in Bayer Leverkusen’s defensive midfielder Christoph Kramer, and are willing to battle Manchester United for the player’s signature next summer.

Kramer, who was part of the German World Cup winning squad earlier this year, is currently half-way through a two-year loan deal with Borussia Monchengladbach, who are also interested in recruiting the player on a permanent basis.
The 23-year-old is yet to play for Leverkusen’s first-team, and earned his place in the national team with two successful loan spell, the first of which was with VfL Bochum, with whom he also spent two years between 2011 and 2013.
Reports in The Metro claim that the Premier League duo were reportedly among a host of clubs that missed out on recruiting the Germany World Cup winner this summer, despite both clubs making formal offers for the 23-year-old.
Kramer will become a free agent next summer when his contract at Leverkusen expires. Moenchengladbach are hoping to make their loan deal for the player permanent by offering Leverkusen £12million for the midfielder in January, but the player reportedly as higher ambitions.
He started the World Cup final in July in place of the injured Sami Khedira, but was forced off after just 20 minutes through an injury of his own.
