Stones was stretchered off during the closing stages of his side’s 2-1 Premier League defeat against Manchester United, and Daily Mail reports have confirmed the injury.

The 20-year-old, who joined Everton from Barnsley for £3 million in January 2013, has made 25 appearances for the Toffees and recently broke through to Roy Hodgson’s England squad.

Roberto Martinez confirmed after the game that the centre-back sustained ankle ligament damage, and the source adds that while it is unclear at this stage how long the England international will be sidelined for, he will definitely miss the Three Lions matches next week.
