Daily Mirror sources suggest that Liverpool are now ready to talk with Sterling, after manager Brendan Rodgers had insisted that the England international would have to be patient about tripling his current £35,000-a-week contract.
The Kop boss had issued a warning about giving young players too much, too soon. But there is now an acceptance inside Anfield that they must hand Sterling a deal to reflect his his exploding value in the transfer market and importance to the club.
Liverpool successfully tied down striker Daniel Sturridge to a new long-term contract earlier this week, with the 25-year-old putting pen to paper on a five-year contract worth around £150,000-a-week with bonuses, and the Reds are now hoping to seal a deal for Sterling.
The 19-year-old admitted in May that he would look for a huge pay rise once he had returned from the World Cup, and following Real Madrid’s muted interest and the player’s reported frustration, the club’s bosses are ready to give in.
