This latest update comes from the Star on Sunday – sourced here by Goal.com – who believe that City are prepared to do whatever it takes to land the 20-year-old England international.
Barkley, who has been with Everton since joining their academy in 2005, has only played 47 league games for the Toffee’s, but became an integral part of Roberto Martinez’s side last season, scoring six times in 34 appearances.
His form earned him a spot in the England team for the 2014 World Cup, and he has so far appeared nine times for the national team. He made his tournament debut during the 2-1 defeat to Italy.
Milner, 28, has grown openly frustrated with his treatment at City – claiming that ‘mouthy’ teammates regularly cost him his spot in the team for important games. But Everton are likely to hold out for at least £40m for their prize asset, even with Milner included as part of the deal.
The midfielder, who has been capped 51 times by his country, would certainly welcome a move to Goodison Park, where he would join former teammate Gareth Barry, another player who has been given a new lease of life since leaving the Etihad.
