They took the lead after only ten minutes through Michel Bastos. Andres Vilches squared it up for the hosts after twenty one minutes, but just two minutes later Henrique Ganso restored the visitor’s advantage.

Despite leading 1-0 after the first leg, it’s not all plain sailing for Sao Paulo. Former AC Milan player Alexandre Pato went off injured in the 34th minute, before former Arsenal player Denilson got sent off in the 37th minute.
