United could replace de Gea with ter Stegen.
Manchester United are already making contingency plans in case first choice goalkeeper and in form star David de Gea is lured to European champions Real Madrid as a replacement for Iker Casillas, with the Express reporting that the Red Devils are lining up Barcelona stopper Marc-Andre ter Stegen should their Spaniard decide to take flight.
Ter Stegen only signed for Barcelona this summer in a £10 million deal from high flying Bundesliga outfit Borussia Monchengladbach, but the club also brought Real Sociedad star Claudio Bravo to the Nou Camp at the same time and, so far, it has been the Chilean who has been preferred by manager Luis Enrique.
Ter Stegen does have youth on his side, however, and could be viewed as more of a long term option by the Nou Camp hierarchy, although if United did come in with a bid that matched what was paid to the Bundesliga outfit then it is likely that the La Liga giants would be more than willing to consider it.
De Gea has been in superb form for United this season, unsurprisingly attracting the attention of Real who are searching for a long term replacement for experienced star Iker Casillas, whose performances have been declining over the last couple of seasons.
