Respected journalist Stuart Brennan revealed on Twitter that Kompany would miss the game, with Manuel Pellegrini discussing his options ahead of the match.

With Eliaquim Mangala suspended after receiving his marching orders following a second bookable offence against the Saints, the Chilean manager will have to choose between Dedryck Boyata, Martin Demichelis and summer acquisition Bacary Sagna.

City will be looking to carry on the  momentum picked up in their dominant 3-0 win against the Hampshire side at the weekend, with Pellegrini’s men scoring twice after going down to ten men.

Kompany will be a huge loss for the Premier League champions, although with Sergio Aguero in such fine form it’s highly possible that they will be able to outscore their opponents.
