The 26 year old’s Upton Park contract expires at the end of the season and despite apparent interest from Liverpool and Arsenal the New Zealand man has opted to sign a lucrative deal to join the White Hart Lane outfit.

Reid has been in superb form over the past 18 months but efforts to tie the player down to a new Hammers deal failed and the east London side then placed a hefty £7m price-tag for the January transfer window but had no takers.

This has led the way clear for Tottenham to move in for the kill.

Pochettino’s defence has struggled at times this term, indeed no side in the top half of the Premier League table has conceded more than Tottenham this season and any move for Reid may well lead to the departure of members of the club’s squad that the manager may deem surplus to requirements.

Mauricio Pochettino has primarily used Federico Fazio and Jan Vertonghen as his centre-back pairing in recent months.
