The Serbian has said that the controversial striker is a better player because of this mentality. The 26-year-old was banned from appearing in their important match against Manchester City recently because he overstepped the line in the Blues’ Capital One Cup semi-final with Liverpool.

“Diego likes attention, he likes for people to speak about him, this makes him a better player,” Ivanovic said.

“This is his way to play. For me there is nothing wrong with that. The ban I cannot speak about but for me this has happened a lot of times. During the one game, sometimes, someone is touched, sometimes not.”

The 30-year-old also claimed that the ‘siege mentality’ that manager Jose Mourinho has implemented at the Stamford Bridge outfit is part of their will to win.

The London club have been at the top of the Premier League all season because of this winning mindset, and they are currently five points clear of second place.

He added,

“I think this [siege mentality] is part of the mentality to win. You need to motivate yourself. To go over the limit. Even if you don’t think someone is against you, you have to find motivation. It is important in winning matches to find extra motivation inside yourself. Sometimes we need to feel this extra pressure.”

Chelsea’s next battle comes away at struggling Aston Villa.
