The former midfield maestro looked well as he recounted tales from his playing days and revealed there was no truth in reports that he has a drinking problem.

The lively Geordie shared a laugh with presenters Robbie Savage and Darren Fletcher, along with Rio Ferdinand, Ian Wright and Russell Brand on the sofa at his former home ground, White Hart Lane, while also sporting a new goatee beard and a smart look. One story in particular involved Gascoigne describing how he fell through the roof at the north London club as he tried to help staff clear pigeons.

Pictured recently in an off-licence, Gascoigne confirmed he wasonly there to buy cigarettes, not alcohol, “I was in Oddbins but I was only buying cigarettes I wasn’t buying booze,” he said.

The England legend then spoke about his colourful experiences in football, admitting that his miss in the Euro 96 semi-final would have been scored by the likes of Alan Shearer or Gary Lineker and held back tears when talking about realising his dream of playing for England.

He said, “I was so excited playing for England, I was like a little kid. Walking out at Wembley for your country, it’s something that will stay with you for ever.”
