According to the Chronicle, Newcastle boss John Carver has told club insiders that several of the first team squad will be allowed to leave as the club try to make room for a plethora of new signings in the summer.

31 year old Williamson, who joined the Toon from Portsmouth six years ago, has made 150 starts for the club during his spell on Tyneside. Despite that, he has often been targeted by supporters for poor performances and was directly at fault for Arsenal’s second last weekend.

It is thought Newcastle will look to 17 year old Charlton centre back Joe Gomez to replace him. Gomez is widely considered to be one of the best youngsters outside the top flight and has been a regular for the London-based club this season.
