The Frenchman has ruled out an interest in the England youngster at the moment, stating that his club are not currently working on any transfer deals, including a bid for the unsettled 20-year-old.

“We are not on any transfer case, and that includes Sterling,” Wenger said.

Arsenal are one of a number of clubs to have been linked with Sterling in recent times, with the exciting young winger looking like becoming the latest star player to quit Anfield, following on from Luis Suarez’s departure from Liverpool to Barcelona last year.

It remains to be seen if Sterling can be persuaded to commit his future to the Reds, or even if he would consider quitting the club for a move to a Premier League rival, in what would no doubt be a hugely controversial switch.
