According to Italian website Tutto Mercato Web, the 29-year-old former Lazio man is in line for a switch when the summer transfer window opens and a second stint in the capital is on the cards. It comes just days after The Sun revealed that he is on the wishlist of several Italian clubs.

While competition for Kolarov is fierce, Roma’s strong relationship with the Blues could put them in the driving seat to secure his signature.

The Serbia international extended his contract until 2018 only last summer, but has been in and out of the side all season, with manager Manuel Pellegrini regularly rotating between him and Gael Clichy.

Kolarov, who joined the club for £19m in 2010, has made 23 appearances in all competitions for the champions this term, and like many of his team-mates has struggled to hit the heights of the previous campaign, which saw Pellegrini’s men clinch the Premier League title and lift the League Cup.
