Chelsea will not be able to lift the Premier League title on Sunday even if they wrap up their top flight win, reports the Daily Express.
The league’s governing body has decided that they must wait until their final home match against Sunderland on May 24, according to the Express – despite the Blues being able to guarantee the title with a win over Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge on the weekend.
Jose Mourinho’s side are thirteen points clear at the top of the division after a 1-3 victory over Leicester City on Wednesday. Despite going behind, goals from Didier Drogba, John Terry, and Ramires turned things around to get the win that takes them just three points from the title.
It will be galling for fans with tickets for the Eagles encounter that they might not be able to see their team lift the trophy. However, at least they could go home safe in the knowledge that no one can then overtake Chelsea, as long Alan Pardew doesn’t orchestrate an upset.
