AS Monaco’s Joao Moutinho scored a fine goal to open the scoring in Ligue 1’s heavyweight clash of the weekend on Sunday, but faced some unexpected resistance when he tried to celebrate.
The Portuguese midfielder raced towards the touchline in order to take a backup ball from the ball boy in order to use as a prop in his celebration.
The youngster, however, initially refused Moutinho’s request and withheld the ball, making for an awkward impasse between the two.
Was he doing his duties or was he simply a bitter Marseille fan not wanting to facilitate a celebration against one of his team’s rivals?
Eventually, the Portugal international got his wish and tucked the ball under his jersey as he was mobbed by his teammates.
The 28-year-old has been a key influence for the Club of the Principality this season following a mixed campaign last year.
His fine finish against OM was his fourth goal of the season, while he has also contributed five assists as Leonardo Jardim’s side have raced into the Champions League places.
