If Southampton were watching rumoured transfer target Papy Djilobodji on Saturday, they may want to think twice about signing him this summer.

The Nantes defender had a horror show in Ligue 1, scoring an own goal as his side, Nantes, could only manage a 1-1 draw against relegation strugglers FC Lorient.

Djilobodji’s mishap came inside the opening four minutes when he was caught out with a fall from Lorient’s left flank and as his goalkeeper Remy Riou failed to clear, the centre-back responded too slowly and ended up finishing the ball into his own net.

Fortunately for the Senegal defender’s blushes, the Canaries scored two minutes later through Johan Audel, but they were unable to build on the goal and secure victory.

The Mirror report that Soton are in talks with Nantes about a transfer for the defender, with the West African being considered as a successor to Belgian defender Toby Alderweireld, whose loan stay from Atletico Madrid comes to an end this summer.

It is believed that a fee of £5million would be enough to sign the defender, although the Saints may face competition from south-coast rivals, newly-promoted Bournemouth.
