Chelsea and Manchester City are looking set to compete for the signing of highly-rated young Everton centre-back John Stones in the summer transfer window this year.
Both clubs look in need of some investment in promising English youth, with City in particular struggling to meet regulations on numbers of homegrown players.
Chelsea could also do with some new additions in that department, with John Terry and Gary Cahill the only regular English players in their squad this season as they won the Premier League title.
Stones could make a fine long-term replacement for Terry at the back, having shown himself to be one of the most promising young defenders in the game in recent times.
According to the Daily Mail, the 20-year-old’s fine form should now see something of a summer transfer battle take place this summer, with the Toffees ace perhaps likely to be available for a fee in the region of £20m.
