The Reds are keen to get some big business done early in preparation for next season, and are said to be lining up a move to sign £25m-rated Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal as well as Atletico Madrid striker Mario Mandzukic.
This should calm fears for the Anfield faithful as they face losing their best player for the second summer in a row, with Luis Suarez quitting the club for Barcelona last year.
It will no doubt be a big blow to see Sterling join another Premier League side, with City looking favourites to snap up the England youngster, according to the Liverpool Echo.
Still, Liverpool have ambitious signings of their own in mind, and the arrivals of Vidal and Mandzukic would certainly do the squad the world of good in addressing two problem positions from this season.
