The incident occurred in the Campeonato Paulista Final earlier this month between Palmeiras and their bitter rivals Santos.

Dudu was sent off midway through the game, and responded by pushing the ref in his back.

Santos won the match 2-1, with the two legged final ending 2-2 on aggregate. Santos ultimately won the title after a 4-2 penalty shootout triumph.

The club have confirmed they will appeal. Corinthians midfielder Petros had his own ban dropped from six months to just three matches for a similar incident last year, and Palmeiras claim a precedent has now been set.

Dudu only joined the club in January after a £3 million move from Dynamo Kiev, although he spent last season on loan at Gremio.
