The 20-year-old only fully joined the Old Lady last January after having his part ownership with Empoli bought out by the larger club. He was then sent back on loan to the Tuscany-based side, and as such is yet to even make an appearance for Massimiliano Allegri’s side.

This isn’t to say that he couldn’t be a success at the highest level though.

The centre-back played in every single minute of Serie A action for Empoli in the last campaign, helping the relatively small club to comfortably stay in the division. This has apparently been enough to pique the Gunners’ interest, and they have made an offer of £10.8 million up front with another £2.1 million possible in bonuses.

The Turin-based team turned down this bid and a loan offer from Napoli, but are thought to still be interested in selling the youngster. It looks like Arsene Wenger will have to cough up more cash if he wants to get his man though.
