Liverpool transfer rumours: Reds in talks with AC Milan over experienced midfield battler

Posted by

Liverpool and AC Milan look set for talks over the transfer of experienced Brazilian midfielder Lucas Leiva towards the end of the summer transfer window, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

The 28-year-old is currently looks to have slipped out of favour at Anfield, having fallen behind the likes of Jordan Henderson, James Milner and Emre Can in the central-midfield pecking order.

Still, Lucas could prove a good signing for a club like Milan, who have struggled to be the force they once were in Serie A in recent years, as he still looks capable of performing at the top level when fit.

Injuries have held the international back at Liverpool in recent years, but he had previously been one of the team’s most important players, combining strong defensive ability with high work rate and quality on the ball.

It could be argued that the slower pace of the Italian game could suit him perfectly, and this move looks ideal for both clubs as we head towards the end of the summer, as well as for the player himself as he seeks to get more regular playing time.

Gazzetta claims that Lucas’s agent has already flown to Italy to begin talks with the San Siro outfit, and the Daily Express adds that the midfielder’s falling out with manager Brendan Rodgers could be behind this imminent deal.
