Manchester United look to have been handed a potential boost in their attempts to sign Valencia defender Nicolas Otamendi this summer, according to latest rumours.

Although the Argentine had looked all set to sign for Manchester City, the deal could now be in doubt due to the Premier League side changing their stance over loaning Eliaquim Mangala to the Spanish club.

Trusted Guardian journalist Daniel Taylor has tweeted on the issue, and United could take some heart from this complication as they are also known admirers of Otamendi.

The 27-year-old was linked with United for much of the summer and makes sense as a priority signing for Louis van Gaal due to his side’s shortage of quality in central defence.
