Liverpool flop Mario Balotelli flies back to Italy ahead of AC Milan loan return talks

Anfield striker could be set for San Siro return.

Liverpool forward Mario Balotelli has flown back to Italy to conduct talks with AC Milan over a potential loan return to his former club according to the Daily Mail.

The 25-year-old striker scored just one goal in 16 Premier League appearances last season and hasn’t even featured in Liverpool’s match-day squad this season, with new signings Christian Benteke and Danny Ings effectively ending his career at the Merseyside club, and is clearly a player Brendan Rodgers would happily offload.

New AC Milan boss Sinisa Mihajlovic is open to bringing in Balotelli and even though an initial loan deal wouldn’t resolve Liverpool’s long-term ambitions to sell the Italian international, the move could act as a useful shop window for the player’s talents.

Balotelli is a self-confessed Rossoneri fan and the troubled marksman enjoyed a successful spell at the club prior to his move to Liverpool, netting 30 goals in 54 appearances for the club.
