Real Madrid tried surprise move to sign Liverpool bench-warmer on deadline day

Real Madrid manager Rafael Benitez tried a late move to raid his old club Liverpool for out-of-favour left-back Alberto Moreno, it has emerged.

The Spanish international is yet to start a game for the Reds this season, falling behind summer signing Joe Gomez in the pecking order at Anfield.

Still, Moreno has previously been regarded as one of the best young talents in Europe, shining during his time in La Liga with Sevilla to attract interest from a host of top clubs.
