Centre-back: Gary Mabbutt may not quite have got the recognition he deserved from England, for whom he made just 16 appearances, but was revered at Tottenham, representing Spurs between 1982 and 1998.

Left-back: One of the genuine hard men of English football, Pearce infamously missed a penalty at the 1990 World Cup, before making amends by converting at the European Championships six years later. He was an outstanding left-back.

Right winger: Chris Waddle was a lightning winger who featured alongside Gascoigne for both Tottenham and England. He starred in the Champions League with Marseille—where he remains a legend—but, like Pearce, missed a decisive penalty kick in 1990.
