Real Madrid target shock Watford boss as Rafa Benitez replacement

Real Madrid are said to be eyeing a shock move for Watford manager Quique Sanchez Flores to replace Rafa Benitez in the Santiago Bernabeu hot seat, according to reports in Spain.

With Jose Mourinho their initial target, he looks to have turned down the chance to make a return to the Spanish capital, but president Florentino Perez has turned his attentions toward Sanchez Flores after being impressed with the impact he’s had at Watford.

Having already taken the helm at fellow La Liga sides Valencia and Atletico Madrid, the 50-year-old linked up with the Hornets in June before guiding them into the top half of the table at the midway point of the season.

And with Benitez skating on thin ice, Sanchez Flores’ brief time in England may be enough to earn him a top job back in his native Spain.

However, Watford aren’t likely to be willing to allow him to move on before the end of the campaign unless a significant fee is offered.
