Liverpool striker Christian Benteke was the source of significant frustration for Reds fans during the first half against West Ham on Saturday afternoon, while others naturally took the opportunity to mock them.
The Belgian international managed just 21 touches in the opening 45 minutes, as he failed to provide a goalscoring threat for the visitors for the most part with the Hammers leading at the interval thanks to Michail Antonio’s headed effort after 10 minutes.
Unsurprisingly, that led to plenty of reaction on Twitter as the former Aston Villa striker was singled out in particular for his poor performance. While much more is expected of the frontman, the argument in his defence has been that he simply doesn’t fit into the style of play under Jurgen Klopp.
However, that isn’t enough to save him from the criticism that was seen on Saturday:
Benteke had 2 touches in the box. We need to either play to his strengths or not use him at all. We’re getting the worst of both worlds

One reason I can’t stand signing big strikers like benteke, Carroll or whoever..The movement and the style completely goes at us. Completely

My nan’s shown better movement that Benteke in this first half, and she’s been dead ten years.

I'm not really sure what were supposed to do with Benteke. People say we need to cross but when we do then he never wins ariel duels.
