Man United defender holds key to Mauro Icardi swap deal

Inter Milan have reportedly told Manchester United that they can sign striker Mauro Icardi providing they can have full-back Matteo Darmian in return, according to Italian publication Corriere dello Sport.

The 22-year-old is apparently high up on prospective boss Jose Mourinho’s transfer wish list, and the Portuguese tactician is believed to be in town this weekend to take a closer look at the striker ahead of his proposed move to Old Trafford.

But the report claims that Inter will only consider selling the striker if they can have defender Matteo Darmian come the other way in return.

Darmian only joined United last summer from fellow Serie A side Torino, but following a good start to life in Manchester, he has struggled recently with both form and fitness, meaning United could be open to letting him move on for the right deal.
