Chelsea eye summer move for combative Serie A star

Chelsea are reportedly preparing an offer to sign Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan this summer in a bid to bolster their squad.

The Premier League champions are considering an overhaul this summer, as having sacked Jose Mourinho in December following a poor run of form, they now risk missing out on the Champions League next season.

With Guus Hiddink set to see his temporary contract expire at the end of the campaign, a new long-term appointment has yet to be announced with the likes of Antonio Conte and Diego Simeone linked with the post at Stamford Bridge.

It is understood, as reported by The Mirror, that Conte is a big fan of Nainggolan and would be keen to sign him if he were to take charge at Chelsea.

Whether or not the Italian tactician has begun the process of identifying targets for the summer with a view of taking over at the Premier League giants after Euro 2016 is unclear, but speculation suggests that the club have been in discussions with him in the past week.

The former Juventus boss will see his deal with FIGC expire after this summer’s tournament in France, and no extension has yet been agreed.

Meanwhile, Nainggolan has become an integral part of Roma’s success in recent times, as after initially impressing with Cagliari, the 27-year-old’s presence for the Giallorossi has helped them compete at the top of the Serie A table as well as in Europe.

Nevertheless, a move to England could be a tempting offer for the Belgian international, although it remains to be seen whether or not Conte arrives in west London and makes him a priority as he considers moulding the squad to match his vision for the club.
