Manchester United edge ahead of Serie A giants in race for star striker

Manchester United are reportedly willing to spend €50m in order to sign Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani this summer.

The Uruguayan international has fallen out of favour in the French capital, as he was forced to come off the bench against Chelsea in the Champions League, only to score the winning goal for Laurent Blanc’s side.

However, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic continuing to lead the line, Cavani has often been forced to play out of position or bide his time on the sidelines, and that in turn has led to plenty of frustration.

Juventus were also reportedly interested in signing the former Napoli striker, as noted by Football Italia, with Alvaro Morata likely to return to Real Madrid in the summer.

Having enjoyed a great spell in Serie A prior to his move to France, Cavani would arguably welcome the opportunity to get back to his best and play regular football in the Italian top flight.

The Bianconeri will likely struggle to compete with United though, as the Red Devils are ready to splash out €50m to sign the striker which in turn puts pressure on the Serie A champions to come up with a competitive counter-offer to convince both the club and player.

The 29-year-old has scored 15 goals in 35 appearances in all competitions so far this season, as he looks set for his lowest tally in almost six years since he played at Palermo in 2010 where he managed just 15 that season.
