Italian shot-stopper attracting interest from Liverpool and Manchester United

Genoa goalkeeper Mattia Perin is reportedly set to be the subject of summer bids from Premier League duo Liverpool and Manchester United.

According to The Daily Express, the highly-rated youngster, who continues to push for a place behind Gianluigi Buffon to become Italy’s number one between the posts after the Juventus legend’s retirement, is being targeted in England.

Having initially burst onto the scene as a teenager, Perin struggled for a period to deal with the pressure and expectations that came with being a starter in Serie A.

However, having now settled at Genoa, he has been able to prove that the fuss was warranted, adding consistency to his game despite the club’s troubles so far this season.

The Rossoblu currently sit in 12th spot in the league table, just eight points above the relegation zone with nine games remaining in the campaign.

While they have the best defensive record of the bottom 10 sides in Serie A, scoring goals has been their primary problem this season with Perin playing his part in ensuring that they stay in games.

Although a move to a European giant such as Liverpool or United would bring its own pressure, the 23-year-old will likely be confident that he could step up and deliver.

Simon Mignolet has faced plenty of doubts in recent seasons after a string of costly errors, although he continues to be backed by Jurgen Klopp. Meanwhile, David De Gea continues to face uncertainty about his future at Old Trafford after being linked with a move to Real Madrid last summer.

In turn, it does open the door for a swoop for Perin, but it remains to be seen which club follows through and successfully manages to sign him.
