With Mamadou Sakho’s future with Liverpool in limbo and several other defenders fighting to keep their jobs before the season ends, the centre-back position will likely need to be addressed quickly once the summer transfer window starts. Luckily for manager Jurgen Klopp, a player he has some familiarity with from his Borussia Dortmund days could be on the market: Stuttgart star Antonio Rudiger.
According to Sportwitness via Calciomercatoweb, Liverpool have inquired about Rudiger’s availability and are ready to offer around £15 million for the German defender. Klopp coached against Rudiger’s Stuttgart teams during his tenure at Dortmund and is fond of the 23-year old star.
Rudiger is currently on loan to Roma this year and has been featured heavily for the Serie A giants. He has two goals in 29 league appearances and played the entirety of the club’s six matches in the Champions League.
Mamadou Sakho will miss the remainder of the season for Liverpool after failing an anti-doping test, and could be on the hot seat before next season starts. Aging veteran Kolo Toure has also been linked with a possible Anfield exit.
