Man City hopes of signing lethal world-class frontman dealt a blow by Real Madrid interest

Pep Guardiola‘s hopes of taking Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski with him to Manchester City may be scuppered by Real Madrid.

The Daily Star report that while Guardiola remains confident of signing the Poland international, Real are considering Lewandowski as a potential replacement for Karim Benzema.

The French striker remains a lethal hitman, having scored 24 goals in 26 La Liga outings for Los Merengues this season, but the tabloid note that Los Blancos are deciding to look elsewhere, and see Lewandowski as an ideal alternative.

Indeed, as good as Benzema is, even he can’t compete with Lewandowski’s numbers this season, with the former Borussia Dortmund hitman having managed 29 goals in 31 showings for the Bundesliga champions this term.

Should he miss out on Lewandowski, Guardiola would still have the luxury of being able to call on world-class Argentine attacker Sergio Aguero.

However, beyond the former Atletico Madrid man, Guardiola’s offensive options may be limited; Kelechi Iheanacho—while promising—is still only 19, and Wilfried Bony has yet to convince since moving to the Etihad Stadium from Swansea City in early 2015.
