Liverpool receive Europa League final fitness boost as injured star travels to Basel

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp could be handed a timely boost as striker Divock Origi has travelled with the squad to Basel for the Europa League final.

The Reds take on Sevilla on Wednesday night, and although Origi isn’t in contention to start, he came through a training session unscathed on Monday and has been passed fit, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The Belgian striker suffered ankle ligament damage against Everton on April 20, but has been racing to be passed fit before the end of the season.

It appears as though he has succeeded in that push, and will likely be named on the substitutes bench along with Jordan Henderson who has also travelled with the squad.

Having finished eighth in the Premier League and coupled with their disappointment in the Capital One Cup final against Manchester City, Liverpool will be hoping to end the season on a positive note and wrap up what has been a thrilling European adventure.

Jurgen Klopp’s influence on the side continues to grow, and it certainly sets up an exciting summer for the club’s supporters as the German tactician will continue to strengthen the squad.

However, the more immediate focus will be on winning his first trophy as Liverpool boss, and it promises to be an entertaining final against Sevilla who are no strangers to winning the Europa League having lifted the trophy the last two years.
