Jamie Vardy transfer latest: Arsenal hopes boosted as Leicester enquire about Premier League replacement

Leicester City appear to be preparing for life after Jamie Vardy by reportedly making an enquiry about unsettled West Bromwich Albion striker Saido Berahino.

According to Sky Sports, the Foxes are interested in signing Berahino if Vardy joins Arsenal, who have held talks with the England striker after meeting his release clause.

Sky Sports reports that the champions are one of three Premier League clubs to have made contact with West Brom about Berahino, and Watford have even lodged an official bid.

But Tottenham Hotspur, whose unsuccessful pursuit of the 22-year-old last summer arguably prompted his poor 2015-16 season, have allegedly moved onto other strike targets.

Berahino only managed 14 league starts last season, scoring four goals, as off-field matters hampered his form and prevented him from matching his 14-goal haul from 2014-15.

But the former England Under-21 international still has the potential to capture the interest of Claudio Ranieri as he faces losing 24-goal top scorer Vardy to the Emirates Stadium.

Standard Sport recently reported that Vardy was leaning towards staying at Leicester, but the Foxes are worried enough over his future to start pursuing potential replacements.

Sky Sports adds that Watford rejected £20m bid from Leicester for Troy Deeney, but their captain could yet be on the move if their interest in Berahino is anything to go by.
