Arsenal transfer news: Gunners losing Vardy battle, new signing assigned squad number, £15m talks over South American

Just a couple of weeks ago, it looked like Jamie Vardy to Arsenal was almost a done deal.

A fee had been agreed, after his release clause was triggered, and we were all just waiting for the Leicester City star to sign his career away.

But he didn’t and, according to Leicester vice-chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha, he probably won’t.

Srivaddhanaprabha suggests that the Gunners are losing this transfer battle.

He expects Vardy to reject the advances from North London and remain with the Foxes.

“You will see the news very soon, but I think he will stay,” Srivaddhanaprabha said.

“I think so, let’s see. We need to build the team. We keep continuing to believe that we can do something special in the Premier League and the Champions League.”

Arsenal also look like they could miss out – at least in the short-term – on 17-year-old transfer target Reece Oxford, who The Sun claim could be set for a season-long loan deal to Newcastle United from West Ham.

The Gunners are also interested in 24-year-old Columbia centre-back Jeison Murillo, with Gazzetta dello Sport claiming that a verbal enquiry has been made, although Inter Milan’s £15m asking price has yet to be met.

Finally, it has been reported by All Nigeria Soccer that new Arsenal signing Kelechi Nwakali has been handed the no.25 ahead of his first season with the Gunners.

The 18-year-old apparently requested no.25, because it is the number once worn by his idol, Nwankwo Kanu.
