Liverpool want £30m from Atletico Madrid for striker flop

Liverpool striker Christian Benteke was somewhat of a disappointment for the Reds in the 2015-16 season after making an expensive move from Aston Villa to Anfield. Now the Reds are seeking to recoup their losses in an exchange with Atletico Madrid.

According to the Metro, Liverpool have begun talks with Atletico Madrid over a transfer move for Benteke. Per the source, Liverpool are seeking around £30 million to part ways with the 25-year-old Belgian.

Benteke struggled to crack the starting XI, only making 14 Premier League starts and 18 starts in all competitions. The nine league goals he scored for the Reds were the fewest for any campaign in which he made at least 25 appearances.

Prior to his 2015 summer move to Liverpool, Benteke was a star for Aston Villa, scoring 13 goals to help the team escape relegation and earning the Villans a berth in the 2015 FA Cup Final against Arsenal – beating Liverpool in the Semi-Finals to get there.

He has been used sparingly for Belgium in Euro 2016, playing just a handful of minutes in two sub appearances.
