Spurs look to add 11-goal attacker as next summer transfer

Georginio Wijnaldum made quite an impact for Newcastle United during his first year with the club – even if it wasn’t enough to prevent them from being relegated. His performance during the 2015-16 season was so strong that Tottenham Hotspur might be giving him a lifeline back to the Premier League.

According to the Express, Wijnaldum is being targeted by Tottenham Hotspur – who are considering making the Netherlands midfielder their latest signing after adding Victor Wanyama and Vincent Janssen over the past few days.

Wijnaldum scored 11 goals and made five assists for Newcastle this past year, and has recorded double-digit league goals in four of his last five campaigns between the Magpies, PSV Eindhoven and Feyenoord. Per the Express, Newcastle paid PSV £14.5 million to bring him in last year.

The Spurs struggled to get production about of any striker besides Harry Kane, as primary No. 2 striker Son Heung-min failed to have the desired impact as Kane’s backup.
