Tottenham out to beat Bundesliga rivals to signing of Bayern Munich ace

Tottenham are set to battle Borussia Dortmund for Bayern Munich forward Mario Gotze this summer, according to reports in Germany.

The 24-year-old featured at Euro 2016 with the German national team this summer, but it came after a disappointing campaign with the Bundesliga champions last season.

Having failed to secure a regular starting spot under Pep Guardiola, Gotze’s situation may well change under Carlo Ancelotti, but it’s claimed that he could be set for an exit instead.

According to Bild, Spurs will now step up their interest and rival Dortmund for the signing of the Germany international which will come as a blow to Thomas Tuchel who had hoped to secure the homecoming of the forward.

Gotze has failed to hit the heights that he did during his time with Dortmund since joining their bitter rivals, and a move elsewhere this summer would arguably be the ideal decision for him.

Nevertheless, it remains to be seen who he decides to join, with Mauricio Pochettino evidently looking to strengthen his squad significantly ahead of next season.

Spurs have been linked with a move for AZ Alkmaar striker Vincent Janssen all summer and appear to be closing in on a deal, as noted by Sky Sports, but that doesn’t seem to be the end of their spending spree.

Having placed a great deal of responsibility and pressure on Harry Kane to score goals last season, Tottenham are making a conscious effort to add more depth and quality up front.

The signings of Janssen and Gotze would certainly tick that box, but while the Dutchman appears set to make his switch to White Hart Lane, it remains to be seen whether or not the German ace will follow him through the entrance door this summer.
