Inter are reportedly targeting Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi as they look to potentially replace club captain Mauro Icardi after his recent fall out with supporters.
The Argentine forward has caused controversy with comments in his new autobiography as noted by BBC Sport, as he criticised the club’s ultras who have now demanded that he be stripped of the captaincy and sold.
Further, several clubs are said to be monitoring the situation with a view of taking advantage and prising Icardi away from the San Siro, with the likes of Arsenal and Napoli interested as reported by Corriere dello Sport via talkSPORT.
Should they decide to sell, it’s claimed that Batshuayi will top the list of replacements for the Nerazzurri, with the Belgian international struggling since his move to Stamford Bridge this past summer.
The 23-year-old has three goals and an assist in seven appearances in all competitions so far this season, but those seven outings have amounted to just 222 minutes of playing time.
Given Diego Costa’s form so far this year, with the Spaniard leading the Premier League scoring charts with seven goals in eight games, it’s been difficult for Chelsea’s summer recruit to displace him.
In turn, it would be only natural if his frustration over a lack of regular playing time is growing, and a move to Inter to be a focal point of Frank De Boer’s attack could be welcomed.
Nevertheless, it would certainly be disappointing to see Batshuayi move on so soon if Inter’s interest is genuine, but armed with the fee that they would receive for Icardi, the Serie A outfit would undoubtedly be capable of testing Chelsea’s resolve as they look to sort out their issues.
