Tottenham ace itching to become latest influential member of Pochettino’s squad to pen new long-term contract

Erik Lamela has insisted that he is keen to follow the lead of several of his Tottenham teammates and sign a new deal with the club.

The Argentine international arrived at White Hart Lane from Roma in 2013, and initially struggled to make his mark in north London.

However, particularly with the help of Mauricio Pochettino, he has not only saved his Spurs career but has established himself as a key part of his compatriot’s squad.

According to the Evening Standard, Lamela is currently one of the top-earners at the club at around £65,000-a-week salary, but he has been in discussions over a new deal.

Having seen the likes of Kyle Walker, Danny Rose, Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen put pen-to-paper on new contracts, Lamela is keen to add his own name to the list.

“I would like to [sign a new deal] because I am very happy here,” he said, as noted by the Standard. “I feel part of this team which is improving. I have a group of excellent team-mates and I feel very good around them.

“It would make me happy to play for more years in this shirt. Will I be the next to sign? Let’s hope so. At the moment I am thinking only of playing and about Saturday’s game against Leicester.”

It’s added in the report that Hugo Lloris and Harry Kane are also on the list of individuals that will be offered new deals in the not too distant future, but it remains to be seen how long it takes for them to agree on new terms.

Given their start to the season combined with influential stars committing their long-term futures, there’s a positive atmosphere at Tottenham. With just a point separating them and the Premier League leaders, coupled with the fact that they remain unbeaten, things are looking promising for Pochettino and Co.
