Man Utd plot £30m move for Atletico Madrid defender

Manchester United are plotting a £30 million move for Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin according to the Sun.

Per the source, United boss Jose Mourinho wants to axe eight players by the end of next season and Godin has been identified as one of the replacements the club is targeting.

The Red Devils reportedly want Godin in January and are willing to bid £30 million and offer him a pay increase on his £70,000 per-week wages.

Mourinho was openly critical of Daley Blind and Rojo following the 2-1 defeat against Fenerbahce in the Europa League on Thursday evening – although he did concede that they are not actually centre-backs.

The 30-year-old defender still has another two-years remaining on his current contract and Atleti are in the La Liga title race.

The Spanish giants are also doing well in their Champions League group and look likely to progress to the next round.

Atletico would however, have to accept United’s offer if they active his release clause which is just above £30 million.
