Southampton are resigned to losing centre-back pair Virgil Van Dijk and Jose Fonte to Liverpool and Manchester United, according to The Sun.
The Sun report that the Saints believe that in the next two transfer windows the Premier League giants will come knocking for their star defenders. They believe that Van Dijk is being targeted by Liverpool, while Jose Mourinho will target Fonte as he looks to sure up his defence.
This campaign, Van Dijk has emerged as one of the best defenders in the Premier League. Fonte has repeatedly outlined his defensive credentials throughout the past few seasons. Together they form an accomplished partnership, but one that could soon be broken up.
Southampton have shown in recent windows that they will sell their star players if an offer matching their valuation is made. Claude Puel’s defence is very much his side’s best asset, however, so he will undoubtedly be reluctant to sell.
