Tottenham injury latest: Pochettino to give fitness tests to two players ahead of Burnley clash, but Lamela defo out

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has revealed that two players are facing fitness tests ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash with Burnley at White Hart Lane.

Spurs have been without Dutch striker Vincent Janssen for their last four games, while Belgian midfielder Mousa Dembele has missed two matches after pulling up during Tottenham’s 3-1 win over CSKA Moscow earlier this month.

However, both players could be in contention to face Burnley in what will be Tottenham’s final fixture before Christmas.

On the subject of Dembele, Pochettino told TottenhamHotspur.com: “We need to assess him tomorrow. He is improving in the last few days but I’m not sure if he will be available, like Vincent Janssen – he is improving a lot in the last few days but we are not sure if he will be available or not.

“We are happy and, if not this weekend, be sure that in 10 days against Southampton he will be available.”

One player who will definitely not feature this weekend is Argentine playmaker Erik Lamela, who has been out since early November with a hip problem.

However, Pochettino was positive when discussing the progress of Lamela’s comeback.

He added: “Erik Lamela is improving a lot but for this week he is still out. It will be difficult (for him to make the Southampton game) but we’ll see. He’s improving a lot in the last few days after he got back from Argentina. We are happy in the way that he is recovering but it’s too early to say if he will be ready for Southampton.”

Spurs have won their last five home games against Burnley, scoring 18 goals in the process.
