Man Utd are reportedly set to offload Adnan Januzaj for £10m to Real Sociedad, while Matteo Darmian has asked to leave the club.
After initially making an exciting breakthrough at Old Trafford, Januzaj’s United career has tailed off dramatically which will be a huge disappointment to all concerned.
The 22-year-old looked a real prospect when given the chance to impress by David Moyes in the 2013/14 campaign, but it hasn’t lasted and he now looks set to move on.
According to The Daily Mail, he has been offered a £70,000-a-week contract by Real Sociedad who have already agreed on a £10m fee with Man Utd, and so it looks as though his time in Manchester has come to an end.
It’s added that Mourinho has ultimately decided that the Belgian international has no future at Old Trafford, which is hard to disagree with, although United have reportedly pushed for a buy-back clause to be inserted into the deal which suggests that they haven’t entirely given up on him yet.
While that’s a sale that will make sense to most, the decision to sell Matteo Darmian will surely raise eyebrows, although it’s claimed by The Sun that it’s the versatile Italian international who has requested to leave the club.
Tipped to move to Juventus to be the replacement for Dani Alves, it’s reported that Darmian has phoned Mourinho directly to inform him of his desire to return to Italy and join the Serie A champions.
Further, it’s suggested that although it would be an initial loan deal, there would be an option to buy for £17.5m, which would be good business from United’s perspective as that would represent £5m profit from when they signed Darmian from Torino in 2015.
It’s a shame that it hasn’t entirely worked out for the 27-year-old in Manchester, but he remains too good a player to not have a prominent role, especially in a World Cup year where he’ll be desperate to play week in and week out.
